20 New Year’s Resolution Ideas

Choosing a New Year's resolution is an exciting opportunity to reflect on your past year and set goals for the upcoming one. It's like standing at the threshold of endless possibilities, offering you a chance to make changes or improvements in any area of life that matters to you. Whether it's adopting healthier habits, learning new skills, or nurturing relationships, the choice is yours. Remember, while setting your resolution, ensure it aligns with your personal values and aspirations. Make it something achievable yet challenging enough to keep you motivated throughout the year.

The Best New Year's Resolutions

  1. Budget Better - budgeting for monthly expenses, dining out, new clothes, etc. helps us better understand where our cash is going and can help us save and plan for the future. Using an online budget management tool or a spreadsheet can help.
  2. Follow your Dream Career - even if you're not actively job searching, it's a good idea to keep your dreams in mind, your LinkedIn profile filled out, and your resume updated.
  3. Build Stronger Relationships - being social can have positive impacts on our health. Join a new group, volunteer, and be open to making new connections.
  4. Declutter your Living Space - a clean home can reduce unneeded stress. Tidy up the items around the house, and clean out and organize drawers and closets.
  5. Be Optimistic - focusing on staying positive and creating achievable goals can reduce stress levels and keep our happiness in check.
  6. Focus on Self-Care - be sure to schedule in "me" time for a relaxing walk or hobby. Overcommitting ourselves can lead to unwanted stress.
  7. Do Activities that Make You Happy - we shouldn't put off being happy. It's important we take part in the activities and hobbies that bring us joy regularly.
  8. Give Back - whether this means volunteering, donating, or paying it forward, giving back to our community can lift our spirits and empower us.
  9. Make Health a Priority - our health should always be at the top of our list. Remember to practice self-care and make time for routine physician visits.
  10. Stop and Smell the Roses - slow down, and take a moment to step back, relax, and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us every day.
  11. Limit Social Media Use - taking a step back from social media can be positive for our mental health. We can start by reducing the amount of times we open our social media apps daily.
  12. Reduce Procrastination - we can make a list of the items we've been putting off, and try to tackle one or two daily to make them more manageable.
  13. Be Grateful - practicing gratitude can make us feel better, and even sleep better. It may be helpful to write down a list of everything we're thankful for and why.
  14. Let Go of Grudges - if grudges are causing additional stress, acknowledge the grudge, communicate, accept the situation, stay positive, and choose to forgive.
  15. Drink Water - many of us don't drink enough water daily. Aim to drink more water this year, and if you don't love water, try infusing it with fresh fruits and vegetables, like cucumber and watermelon.
  16. Follow a Skincare Regimen - healthy looking skin is the result of healthy eating and good skin care. Identify your skin type and determine the best skin care routine for your unique needs.
  17. Move Often - increase activity by walking somewhere instead of driving or getting up from an office desk to move around. Moving more doesn't necessarily mean a hardcore workout at the gym.
  18. Let Go of Bad Habits - smoking, drinking, and overeating are the most common ones. Make a plan to break these bad habits once and for all.
  19. Commit to a Healthy Sleep Schedule - quantity and quality of sleep are important. Limit screen time before bed and try getting to bed around the same time every night.
  20. Be Present - Try to slow down and take one day at a time. It's easy to get in a routine of multi-tasking, which can cause stress and burnout.
