Mocktails for a Healthy Happy Hour

Mocktails have been experiencing increasing popularity lately. Their popularity can be attributed to several factors. Many health-conscious people are seeking healthier creative beverage options without the alcohol. Others, including pregnant women, designated drivers and nondrinkers are looking for ways to feel more socially included in gatherings where alcohol is served. There has, indeed, been a cultural trend for more mindful drinking and the demand for sophisticated nonalcoholic options. Whether you are socializing in a bar or restaurant, or throwing an alcohol-free event in your home, here are some go-to non-alcoholic drinks that are popular and easy to make at home. 

Virgin Margarita 

Ingredients:

1/4 cup fresh lime juice 

2 tablespoons orange juice 

1 tablespoon simple syrup 

1/2 cup of sparkling water or lemon-lime soda 

Salt or Tajin for rimming 

Lime wedge for garnish 

Prepare:

1. Rim the glass with salt or tajin 

2. Mix lime juice, orange juice, and simple syrup in a shaker with ice 

3. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice 

4. Top with sparkling water 

5. Garnish with a lime wedge

 

Virgin Mojito

Ingredients:

10 fresh mint leaves

1 lime, cut into wedges

2 teaspoons sugar

Club soda or sparkling water

Ice cubes

Prepare:

1.    Muddle mint leaves, lime wedges, and sugar in a glass

2.    Fill the glass with ice cubes

3.    Top with club soda or sparkling water

4.    Stir gently and garnish with additional mint and lime

 

Virgin Mimosa

Ingredients:

Non-alcoholic sparkling wine (Lyre’s is a popular brand)

Fresh orange juice

Prepare:

1.    Fill a champagne flute ¾ with sparkling wine

2.    Squeeze fresh orange juice and fill flute

 

Blackberry Lemonade Mocktail 

Ingredients:

1/2 cup fresh blackberries 

1/4 cup lemon juice 

2 tablespoons honey or simple syrup 

1 cup sparkling water or club soda 

Ice cubes 

Fresh blackberries and lemon slices for garnish 

Prepare:

1. Muddle blackberries in a glass 

2. Add lemon juice and honey; stir well 

3. Fill the glass with ice

4. Top with sparkling water and stir gently

5. Garnish with blackberries and lemon slices

 

Virgin Espresso Martini 

Ingredients: 

1/2 cup brewed cooled espresso 

1/2 cup tonic water 

1 teaspoon vanilla syrup 

Ice cubes 

Lemon or orange slice for garnish 

Prepare:

1. Fill a glass with ice 

2. Pour in cooled espresso 

3. Top with tonic water 

4. Add vanilla syrup if and stir gently 

5. Garnish with citrus slice
