Nurses Health Study Shows Vitamins May Help to Reduce Cataracts
11/30/2005
Researchers analyzed data collected from 408 Boston-area women who completed food frequency questionnaires during the Nurses Health Study. The goal of this analysis was to investigate possible associations between vitamin intake and vision loss. The results of this study suggest that long-term use of vitamin E supplements, and increased intakes of riboflavin, thiamin and niacin, may reduce the progression of age-related lens opacification, commonly called cataracts, which limits the transfer of light thru the lens to the optical nerve.
